I think the TRS's with a tranny eat about 50hp. I don't think its really a percentage.

the borg warner style trans will only rob you of around 7 hp, most of which is from the hydraulic pump. This assumes the trans isn't overheating, slipping, or operating in excess of its side loading spec - all of which will reduce its ability to pass power thru. This is in the 4500-6000rpm range.

The outdrive will eat up to 30hp in the 400 hp and 5000rpm range. As you add power, you increase friction and cause shaft deflection and torsional bending. These factors will add to the drivetrain losses, and close to your lube film breakdown limit, you'll see friction losses climb dramatically.

Dunno, but I think a TRS trying to pass 800 horses is gonna have some flex loading that contributes to uneven gearface wear and additional friction losses. Maybe up from 30hp loss to 55?

All added together, 35-65hp loss or so.

i always thought the trans ate up about 25-30hp...nice to read it only eats 7hp or so..:D

does the tailstock rob any power?
