Ilmor 625 or Merc 600SCI

building a Domn8er 25' deck boat and am considering either the Ilmor 625 or the Merc 600SCI motor. I like the Ilmor as it is different but what really matters is the performane. Which motor would you recomend and why?

do you have anybody close thats qualified and or knows how to work on either?

Not just some socalled merc trained mech that all he knows is how to hook up a DDT:eek:

speedboat mag did a test comparing the two motors in an OL. They both hit the same mph, with the merc only a small bit faster. In the end the merc was chosen b/c the smartcraft system, service network, etc. Pick the one that you like best and have fun.

The boat manufacturer is a Merc/Ilmor qualified dealer.

Dependant on drive choice but approx. $6,000. Merc being the higher.

I would go with the ilmor, not that I have any experience with either. The ilmor is NA with the merc supercharged, right? That's one more thing to fail on the merc. Keep in mind, with a blower, if the engine is making 600 at the crank, all the internals are working as hard as if it were NA and making 650-700 hp. It takes a lot of power to drive a blower.

Keep in mind that you can find a Merc certified tech anywhere in the world.
