installing side exit exhaust

I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips before i go drilling any holes in my boat. I just purchased a set of hardin marine 45 degree side exit tips. Is there any special way i should go about drilling the holes and, what would i use to cap off the exsisiting exhaust. I am not using diviters so I am just using exhaust hose to connect to the tips. My motor is a 350 mag mpi, also should I expect any gains in mph?

I doubt you will see any mph gains. My buddy has a 202 and has the side exit exhaust and does not see any mph when he switches. He also has the 7.4/310hp.

As far as cutting, measure 10 times before you cut. If the completely round cut outs, use a hole saw.

Thanks, so basically its just for noise and looks........I wont tell my wife that hahaha.

the size of the exhaust is 4" so should i cut 4.25 inch holes?

I would cut 4" and use a dremel or something if its too tight.

so would you recommed a hole saw i heard that the fiberglass eats up those saws, or a template and a dremel with a cutting bit?

I appreciate the info

Love my side dumps in my Velocity. Due to the way the noise law was written in NV, they have to measure 1 meter from the transom, that dropped the noise to less than 85db, at the side they were over 94db.

I never thought of that (side exit exhaust) to combat noise regulations. What about if you ran one to each side? I would think that would help with both the stationary idle test and the running test...

I have the side exit exhaust no mufflers open headers very loud in the boat but not loud at all from the back. But everyone says man your boat is loud
