Connecting 2 PC's together

Can I simply use my firewire cable to connect 2 Laptops together to transfer music from 1 to the other?

It seems I read where I can fry my laptop because the firewire ports have voltage going to them to charge/operate items such as videocameras.

Thanks

According to a post on www.velocityreviews.com..."It works fine. Just get a long enough cable and assign each firewire card a
network IP address on the same subnet... 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 and
192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0 for example. You will soon be experiencing the
joys of 400Mbps networking.

In network connections, right click the 1394 connection on each machine and
specify an IP address on the properties page for "Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP)". Simply click the "Use the following IP address" button and enter
the IP address. The subnet mask is right below it. You can leave the DNS
entries blank.

If this is a short exercise, it's best to disconnect both machines from the
internet and drop the firewalls. You should then be able to see the network
in My Network Places. If you can't see it, use the search tool and search
for the other computer by IP address."
