Filling K-Plane Reservoir
Re-rigged the boat and need to fill the K-Plane reservoirs with ATF.
Do you fill through the hole that the dipstick is screwed into? I know this sounds like a real newbie question but I never had to mess with filling the reservoir until I removed it to redo my engine compartment. Thanks Dennis |
The newer pumps use 10-30. That dipstick hole is where you fill it. It takes some patience, find a small container with a small straw type end to fill with or a small funnel .add slowly it will act full when its not poke to let air out and repeat. when you have it full crack they outside lines loose. Use a jumper to run pump in one direction for about 5 seconds add fluid ,repeat , when solid oil comes out in that direction tighten those fitting ,repeat in opposite direction. when you have filled and tightened all lines cycle up and down, check level, don't let the res. run dry. When its full of fluid and cycles up and down. let it sit a couple of hours to allow any foamed oil to settle. check level and cycle. This time when pump binds at end of cycle hold a few more seconds. let sit overnight and check level again you should be finished . Don not tighten the dip stick completely until you have run the boat.
May be too much info. I hope it helps. Jim |

My ol' tub has ATF in it when I purchased and I haven't flushed the lines out. I put 10w30 in my trim pumps. I have a lab squeeze bottle with a nozzle that will get the job done. Thank you for all the info. Dennis |
I've run both ATF & 10W-30. The ATF will increase the speed slightly, which is a good thing if you have the old style pumps (metal cylindrical resevoir) ;)

Got'em bled out and they work great!
Thanks Dennis |
They call for 30 wt oil. The thinner the oil, the faster the planes will work. They are plenty fast with regular 30 wt. I use an old fashion oil can with a pump handle to fill them.
