Brass impeller pump - 496ho
 

Sucked up a some sand in river. Took impeller pump off. PITA. Impeller was ok- plan to replace while apart. Brass housing and cover were scored.
What should I do about the brass housing; ignore, buy 2 new housings, braze have ground down, or get ss plate kit from co in AZ. thanks

I would get the SS kit from R&R products in AZ 928-453-6411 I've had mine in for about a year now. So far so good. There not nearly as much as a new sea pump housing which will scour out in no time at all.

I ordered 2 kits, will install asap. Back flushed hoses and now have enough sand to make a small castle.

you might want to pull the caps off the heat exchangers and make sure they are clear also pull the hoses off the oil cooler and flush it directly as it also has small tubes inside. Although on your boat the oil coolers may be real hard to work on.

I back flushed using following method.
How do you remove the heat exchanger caps. I assume it is the 4" disc on each side with bolt in center? And yea, can't even see the oil cooler.

Something you may try, facing the front of the engine the lower hose, on the right hand side of the heat exchanger ( about 1- 1.5" diameter) can be removed, then remove the 2 blue drain plugs from the sea water pump. Hook up a water hose to the hose you have removed and back flush the engine. This is a quick, and easy way to flush any blockage from the oil coolers. Especially if you have twins, and access is difficult. I found a common fitting at the hardware store, that would allow me to clamp to this hose and get good pressure back through the system. The amount of debris that came out was alarming. You are definitely having a water flow problem if the exhaust is getting this hot, on the one side.

exactly it is the 4" disc on each side a coat hanger makes a good tool to push any debris out of the tubes. If the gaskets are starting to fall apart go buy a sheet of 1/8" cork and make your own they last longer and don't block the flow.

You might also want to remove the sea pump when you backflush that way you aren't filling it with debris from the cooling system.

Quick update; rec'd kits from R&R, install was very simple stainless steel plates should make wear a non-issue now. Ran great all weekend. :party-smiley-048:

I don't think they have a web site? If you do a search I had a thread going last year that had the directions and pictures of the install.
