If your running WOT you could be pumping it dry. Thats why most boat have at least 8qt pans. You also my have your pickup to close to the bottom of the pan. That will cause the same symptoms. I think around 1/2" clearance is needed.

You need more oil, bigger pan.

A buddy blew up his 454 chevy truck last weekend towing a large load up the skyway bridge - steep incline, 2 miles long. He was running around 4400 rpms and just pumped all the oil to the top, ran the bottom end dry. Boom!

You definitely need a big pan in a marine application.
