help 496 ho

I have an '02 496ho. When I run out for appx. 30 minutes the boat will stall and will not restart for appx 20minutes. Almost like it is vapor locking. Any suggestions as to where to start

What speed does it stall at? Any codes active or loged? Or Alarms

lakerat 08-09-2007 09:33 PM

about 40mph and it is at the shop right now checking the codes and no alarms have sounded.

Crank or cam sensor does not set off an alarm....when they go bad, they just leave you high and dry.

Was the fault an ACTIVE fault, or a stored fault? It's not uncommon to have stored cam and crank sensor faults even when the sensors are not faulty. If the fault is an active fault, then you have a bad sensor.

Cam sensor is an easy change. The crank sensor is in a spot that makes it challenging to change. Once located, there is one bolt that holds it in place, remove and then rotate and grab the part of the sensor that acts as a handle and start tugging. It is a b!tch to remove but after tugging enough and swearing it comes out. The replacement is slightly different than the one from Merc (at least mine was from BAM). I oiled the O-rings and installed the new one.

Here is my defective one
