Changing Fuel Filter no gas available to fill

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have 1998 272 with 454 Mag MPI, I have a question, what do you do if you are changing your fuel filter and don't have gas to fill the new one with? I changed mine today and only had enough on hand to fill half of it. When I tried to start the boat, it ran for a few seconds then died, now it will not start, I am sure it will start after it sits overnight.

This happened once before, I didn't know you had to put fuel in the filter, I could not get the boat to start, left it over night and it started right up the next day.

So what can I do to get this thing started without waiting overnight? And exactly what causes this? Some kind of saftey check valve or just air in the fuel lines? How do you prime the fuel system?

pull the coil wire off and turn it over 3 times for 12 seconds each time. That should be enough to prime the filter.
