Ray, I have an 01' HO.....how do I tell if I have the forged internals minus pistons? If so can I leave those out of the parts cost on one of your motors or do you use better stuff all togather? Hypothetically speaking of course.
Oh yeah, doesnt it suck that we will loose the N/A bbc because of bs junk science environmental pc crap? |

Only real way to know what crank your 496 has in it is to pull the pan and look at the crank, or you might try checking the Mercury serial number against the replacement parts listing at Bam Marine site for your serial number. are you going to the shootout at Loto. we'll be there with the Raylar boat for some fun! Has anyone needed larger injectors for their 496 upgrades? I just picked up my engine last night and the builder told me that my stock 34# injectors are now too small. According to his math, these are only good for up to 435hp and he strongly suggested I go to 40# injectors. I have the 103K Raylar kit and the cylinders have been bored 30 over. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what size the injectors are. Ray should be able to answer that. I do know that we made 550+ HP on the dyno with Whipple reprogram and about 45 psi fuel pressure and were no where near maxed out on pulse width. When you increase fuel pressure, you effectively increase injector size.
Now we'll wait for Ray to chime in. I don't think you need larger injectors.

My wifes dooley has a 496, excessive oil consumption replaced under warranty at 30,000 miles. Gas milage in the city is about 22 mpg just unbelieveable, with the allison it bearly comes off idle. Hard to beat the feel of gas when towing. Never let us down though, and I doubt if she would sell it.

HOT 4 Teacher:
Bob is correct and I am sorry to say your mechanic is speaking of the truck 8.1L injectors which are 36LB injectors. The GM marine injectors that come on your 496's, both Mag and HO's are 43 lb. injectors. On the Raylar kit we have you runn your fuel pressure up to 50 psi 400KPA which has those same injectors delivering about 50lbs per hour with which you can easily make over 600HP with out a long pulse width or injector duty cycle. You are just fine. Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar |
Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. I wonder if they just got their numbers reversed? They sent the injectors out to be be flow tested and the testing company said they were 34#, not the mechanic. I'll ask them to confirm their findings.
Excalibur32, my question wasn't meant to high jack the thread, it was the closest match I could find without starting a new one. As far your wifes dually is concerned, I think 22 in the city is pretty good as the 8.1's typically get an average of less than 10. :D |
Ray, will you be selling your new aluminum 550hp to the public? If so what price range???
