what is trs with berg warrners?,

call me stupid, but i dont know,:angry-smiley-044: sounds like a transmission.

Borg Warners are indeed transmissions. The TRS drives also came with Mercruiser transmissions as well. I believe the B/W trannies are the prefered one to have.

Darrell.

yep, that would be correct.
The TRS drive used a trans for foreward and reverse, unlike the Bravo that shifts inside the upper part of the drive. The TRS is also direction specific. It is either a left hand drive or a right. The gears have tobe changed in the lower to change direction of the drive.

so its a automatic type tranny? 2 speed?, I would assume it shifts like butter, no "clunk" as the gears are already ingaged. Seems like the driveline would be happyer with this set up, if it has a torque converter, it would take the "shock" out of things?

Zanie 08-14-2007 07:30 AM

If by two speed you mean forward and reverse, then yes.

No torque converter. There's a front hydraulic pump that is used to apply pressure to a series of inline plates This results in a direct "coupling" of the input and output shaft by friction between the plates.
Great system. But the TRS and B/W trans were expensive and heavy, so were replaced by Bravos.

Getting an education here, so it does not shift"2 forword speeds" Its just the old way the get them in and out of gear.

The inner workings of a Merc tranny are a single speed Ford transmission.
