what is trs with berg warrners?,
call me stupid, but i dont know,:angry-smiley-044: sounds like a transmission.

Borg Warners are indeed transmissions. The TRS drives also came with Mercruiser transmissions as well. I believe the B/W trannies are the prefered one to have.

Darrell. yep, that would be correct. The TRS drive used a trans for foreward and reverse, unlike the Bravo that shifts inside the upper part of the drive. The TRS is also direction specific. It is either a left hand drive or a right. The gears have tobe changed in the lower to change direction of the drive. |
so its a automatic type tranny? 2 speed?, I would assume it shifts like butter, no "clunk" as the gears are already ingaged. Seems like the driveline would be happyer with this set up, if it has a torque converter, it would take the "shock" out of things?

If by two speed you mean forward and reverse, then yes.
|
No torque converter. There's a front hydraulic pump that is used to apply pressure to a series of inline plates This results in a direct "coupling" of the input and output shaft by friction between the plates.
Great system. But the TRS and B/W trans were expensive and heavy, so were replaced by Bravos. |
Getting an education here, so it does not shift"2 forword speeds" Its just the old way the get them in and out of gear.

The inner workings of a Merc tranny are a single speed Ford transmission.
