Interittent issue WOT

Well this one has me stumped

It started last week at LOTO during the fun run. One motor (port) will act like the clutch is slipping???? but only at WOT

I will be running along at 4900-5100 RPM and it will feel like the prop just lets go and I have to back the throttle back to idle and then once I get back on it it come back and runs fine.

If I run at 4500ish it seems as if the problem goes away.

I have read about coupler and cone clutch but both of those seem to be either on or off not this intermittent.

I am stumped, any ideas?????

The prop(s) are blowing out.

Sounds like blow out to me also.
Are you running a BRAVO 4 blade prop?

Tinkerer 09-03-2007 09:06 PM

How fast is WOT?
How high are you trimming your boat?

ckentling 09-03-2007 10:05 PM

WOT is low 70s trimmed at where the spray looks normal with minimal surface spray.

I am runnign 3 blades, I will try my 4 blades and see if it happens again

Thanks

Does your boat get on plane easily with the three blade props?
Is this your first go fast boat.
Do you know how to trim for max speed?
Please don't take this as an insult.
Some people just don't know how to trim a boat.
What year is your boat.
Is it stepped?
When the boat is trimmed for max speed you should have a little bit of a rooster tail.
Do you have cable indicators for your drive trim?
have you checked to see where the drives are paralell to the bottom of the hull on your indicators.
If not adjust both to read the same.
Every boat is different but when you are trimmed for max speed the trim angle should be above the neutral setting at least a few numbers.

NO insult taken, that is why I ask here

it does get on plane fairly easily with the drives in and tabs at neutral

I have it trimmed for max speed and I do not have mechanical indicatoirs I have electris livorsi gauges unig the gimbal mounted pucks. Last fall I set both drives to be level and the gauges to be even on the "centered" mark on that gauges and I am between that and the upper mark on the gauges when trimmed for max speed .

The boat is a 93 Powerquest 29 with a tradional deep V with no steps or pads

There si a slight rooter tail at WOT

I am going to put my 4 blades on this weekend and see if the problem goes away

THANKS :cool-smiley-011:
