96 carb'd 500's
Need opinions on reliability on carb'd HP500's with 590hrs. Heads were re-done 100 hours ago - What else can you tell me about them???
Pros?? Cons?? Thanks!! Capt Ross |
Ahoy Captain!
I have twin 1999 HP500's that ran great until about 300 hours when the inner springs failed on port engine and broke the crank between 1 and 2. Evidently weak springs were the nemisis of these carbed engines. Also low risers and low idle RPM's made them easy victims to water reversion catastrophes. 590 hours increases your risk. Both engines have since been rebuilt by Tyler, and are now HP600's. Hope this is helpful. Carder |
on my 98 500s i replaced the springs accordingly at under 200 hrs and rasied the idle now have 510 hrs i do have one useing more oil than the others. know of another set of 98 500s that went with no tune up till 400 hrs wow! he had to rebuild soon after at 700 hrs on one then at 1000 on the other. is that good or bad
