Timing setting 525efi

My mechanic says his Merc computer can not tell the timing setting on a Merc 525efi. He said you have to bring motor around to TDC and then remove the dist. cap to see if it's lined up correct. Does anyone have a system that can tell the timing setting on a Merc 525efi?

A 525EFI doesn't have a distributor, and you don't/can't set the timing.
