is there anyone in this vast world of OSO that can tell me of a small watercooled turbo that has been used on diesel or gas engines, needs to be watercooled. any info welcome.

Gale Banks had a number of Turbo Packages for boats. You can see pictures of package in other thread going on now.

You can see the water cool coller that goes around the outside of the turbocharger. I believe in later years they made a turbocharger with the water passage in the turbo but I never saw one in person.

most of the water cooled turbos went on generators

Watercooled the 4 exuast houslng myself on my 30 ft small block twin turboed boat. I rolled 1/8 304 stainless steel plate in radius around exuast housing. Made end plates tig welded togther. Drilled and weled water in and out fittings. Has worked fine for 12 years. Boat was electmotive computer controled ingnition, lake water intercoolers. Motors made over 700 HP with 14 PSI of boost. O-ringed heads now running 18 PSI for 10 years with out a problem.
Turbos Rule Good luck

The KKK turbo used on some VolvoPenta Diesel (TAMD40) is Ok for the big block Chevy, the exhaust housing is water cooled and the exhaust turbine is made in Inconel so it can support the exhaust temp made by fuel engine.
you just have to check the wastegate to get the right boost.

Itīs a KKK-26

the Early Porsche 911 (930) Turbos used it too.

Here are some pics of motors. They need a good cleaning. Will post more if this works.

Hey Looks good, can ya explain your set-up ?

Looks like individual coil packs on the front?

What's the aluminum deal/airbox above you intake manifold, with the end caps you would almost think ya had rotors in there?

How much horsepower are ya making?

Thanks for the picture and your time, look forward to more pictures.

guessing its Electromotive FI with PFM intercoolers / turbo stuff.

BDARCHER 09-13-2007 10:40 AM

Lake water intercoolers up top. Made them myself from 1/2 Alum plate rolled bent and machined. Not casted, Two pop offs valves in front with trams coolers inside to cool charge. Electromotive tec II engine control. Turbos are TO4s from john deere engines. Machined exuast and intake housing for different impellers myself on Cincinnati CNCs. Looked into PFM stuff but was insanely priced in 1993. Machined pulleys bent and weled alum tubes water cooled turbos here at my shop no problem at all. Hard part was leaning to tune motors with laptop. Even made the water cooled exuast pipes and tips.

Very nice,.............how much air temp do you drop by the time it exits your intercoolers ?

Havent had the laptop hook to motors in about six years. Best I recall the air temp is about 120 Deg at air doors where carb would sit. At about 14 PSI. Never checked at turbo outlet. Temp changed from sprig to summer as water temp changed.
