Merc 525 EFI Merc 575 SCI

Can anyone tell me the pros and cons between the 525 efi and the 575 sci Mercs. Also I heard the 575 has high fuel consumption, what would be the consumption difference between the 2?

If you're in Florida, get the 525efi for the closed cooling alone. They are actually more like 540-550hp.

Thanks Griff, Anyone know of any good deals on a pair of 525's out there???

Go with the 525's for Griff's reasons and they are much more fuel efficient and you dont have to worry about higher octane gas and the blower. If im not mistaken the 575's need 89 or higher and the 525's only need 87.

I'd take the 575 , add an inner cooler and turn up the boost!

The 575's are not that thirsty. My 575's use the same amount of fuel as my 2 buddys w/ 525's.
The 575 is really a stong - well built motor. Not choked up w/ sensors either - YOU can work on it. They both need upper end freshning up around 300ish hours. The 575 blower should be sent off to Blower shop for upgraded bearings / seals (about $1K)

Go for the blower - you will love them and the instant response!

I ran trip 575's they are great I would recomend them over 525's any day.

575 all the way

I agree with the 575. It's a very reliable motor in stock form, and easily upgradeable to the 700HP range, with bolt ons and ECU modifications. Even more if you go inside.
The 525 is a great motor, but is not easy to upgrade.

Steve
