what size of blower do I need
I 'm running a 622ci bowtie splayed block, 4.625 bore, 4.625 stroke, callies crank, oliver rods lunati cam, gm high perf. alum. heads JE 10.5:1 pistons, jessel valve train and timing belt and MSD ignition, engine dynoed at 837hp@5800 rpm and 858ftlb@4700 rpm, boat is running mid 90's, I would like to get it over the 100 mark, I'm just about out of options for a natrally asperated motor, so what size of blower should I look for and what should I drop the compression to. I would think it wouldn't take much to push it to 1000hp, but I'm sure this is a position a lot of you have been in. ANY THOUGHT'S
Thanks in advance larry |
come on< I know someone has a recomendation, give it up.

well I would lower compression to 8.5:1 and drop a 12 or 1471 on....nice motor, I had a 10.5:1 632" NA motor a few yrs back. you can get 1000hp with low, low boost 4-6#.
You are not out of options....Another way you could probably get to 1000hp is to go with a set of Dart 18 degree 370 Oval ports, and cam change...problem is you have to get a sheet metal intake made for the 18 degree stuff....but those are awesome heads. :ernaehrung004: |
max 8.5 compression and whipple, procharger or vortec with an intercooler. With one of these you will get the most HP for lb of boost.

a 14/71 is what i had in mind, the pistons I have are new (less than 5 hrs) JE said they could cut them down to what I wanted, I don't want to run an intercooler if I can help it, I figure with lots of air and low boost (4-6) it should be ok, I've looked at the whipples, but not sure if 1 whould do it, and a quad with efi is big, big bucks, and I don't care for the blow through sys. fuel ingection is an option, but I'm an old carb guy.
thanks for the info guy's I will take all I can get. larry |
Big blower, turning slow, at low boost will not need a chiller especially with Aluminum heads...:ernaehrung004:

Why no chiller?

What Octane you going to use?
Big blower turning slow wont idle well and your plugs will load up quickly. |
I was thinking a 14/71 also. 622CU/IN is a hell of a lot of motor to feed. I'd give the guys at PSI a call. I'm sure they will get you on the right road.

I would not cut the pistons , most of the higher compression pistons will have a thinner dome/piston top ...Most? But if they say there enough there ...the ring land needs to be .300+ down.espicaly if your not going with a innercooler. I would call Marv at www.boostdaddy.com and look into a Blowershop blower,You can pick his brain also,:D your prob going to need a blower cam also I hope ya have a speedmaster:eek: |
