Brava 1 to Bravo XR

I have a 1999 Bravo 1 drive, I have been thinking about upgrading to an XR drive. Does anyone know what year Mercruiser changed to a shorter inner gimbal bearing race, they also changed the aluminum bellows retaining ring to a narrower one making adequate clearance for the larger universal joints used in the early Bravo XR drives.

Prop inserts will also have to be purchased and changed. Simple to do though if its Merc props. The XR has a larger diameter shaft.

will the transom assembly and the gimbles take the XR? or the whole transom needs to be changed?

I am thinking about changing form Bravo 1 to ??? XR's?

Smitty 10-16-2007 09:32 PM

Just need to change the bearing and sleeve thats in the kit from merc.

Ken N 10-17-2007 03:36 PM

If not Ill take 2 lol.

When I checked into the above option it seemed like $7000.00 was the going price for parts for a pair just for the Uppers.
