Will this engine work?

I am looking at this engine on Ebay, but am wondering if this is truly a marine engine. Can anyone tell me if this will work?

This is the engine:

and this is the link to the Ebay auction:

That engine has been on there before. You would probably be money ahead getting an engine from a marine engine builder if you don't want to build your own. Why take expensive chances on ebay (unknown) stuff.

First clue would be the screw on oil filter mount on the bottom.

Usually marine apps we like to have the remote mount.

It would probably have to be torn down and checked completely, since it was never run and been sitting since 1994.

Wouldn't a marine engine have a flywheel rather than a flexplate?

Generally , I would think that is what you need to bolt the coupler to. Yes

I got's plenty of parts to build plenty of motors.

I got 6 engines in my shop right now.

That Scarab is long gone, I got 1 more on the way and I am negotiating on 2 others.

Going to be a busy winter, but hopefully a profitable spring.

That is the old off-the-shelf marine performance 502 from GM Performance. The new one has a roller cam and inconel exhausts and has a street price of about $12,500. It's the same engine as the old LS-6 425 horse 454 but with a siamese bowtie block and of course more displacement. With a marine roller cam, roller rockers, a better intake and an 850 Holley you'll have a 600 horse engine, provided your exhausts are up to the task. I can't remember if the older one has inconel or stainless on the exhausts.

I'm not suggesting you don't shop around but I've not seen much in a new engine that will compete with what you're looking at here.
