Naked Splines
I usually leave the props on my boat during the off season, but this year I sent them back for some massaging. Thus, the splines are exposed to the elements as the boat sits outside. Should I have something covering them?

Just grease her up.
Should have a coating of grease on them anyways at all times. |
A little Mercury 2-4-C grease couldn't hurt, or a piece of PCV pipe over the prop shaft is another low cost option.

I've always stored my boat indoors, unheated. I've never had a problem with my nekked shafts. just a little grease on the splines. Pretty high-grade stainless.

I'll add a little more grease on my next visit. Thanks.

I grease them up and slide a 1 1/2 pvc pipe over it.

Hey Waterbum - thanks for the shout out. How's the winter been? Are you blueprinting the hull next year? I'll have to add the pvc pipe when I'm down at New Year's.

I'd rather be good looking than so damn smart. :)
