Prop Reccomendations Please... 90 Scarab 454 Mags
 

Hello.

I am running 3 blade 25's and not happy w/ acceleration. Some are recomending 3 and other 4 blade.

Now when I accelerate, The tachs on the 454 mags are only @ 4,000 rpms full open and cruising which I know is hard on the engines... What should I run for a lil better performance???

Also... where is the best place to buy props... and should I go used??

what size boat,drive ratio,what prop?

4000 rpm's is to low for that motor. you should be in the 4600 to 4800 rpm range.

try a mirage + 23p.

also post this in the prop section you will get more help. Call brett at bblades or julie at throttle up both are members on the board. Good luck.

A23 mirage should bring you up 400RPM,merc says 42 to 4600rpm is were you should be with a 7.4 454 motor.
and I do have a set of 23 mirages that have acouple of hours of use on them.

My 31' Excel with 454 Mags runs 5000 RPM with 23P mirage 3 blade.

Try looking in the Prop section of this forum---you will get more prop help there.

BTW, 4000rpm is way too low for WOT. Either you have the wrong sized props or your engines are real tired and in need of a rebuild.

It Is A 31xcel. With Bravo 1 Drives, And When Trim Is All The Way Down And On Plane, Only Getting About 4000 Rpm At Full Throttle. The Motors Have New Top Ends 40 Hrs Ago.

OH, AND YES, I GUESS I WILL BE SHOPPING FOR SOME 23 P'S LOOKING AT THE RECOMENDATIONS SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW MUCH YOU WOULD CHARGE FOR THEM.

I have the same boat, 1992 31 Excel 454 mags. I have 23p 3 blades but I'm trying to find some 22p 4 blades to try..

So... Should I then be looking for the 22 4 blade and just skip the 23's all together???

Any advise is greatly appreciated!
