Iron Eagle heads and push rods

I have a set of marine Iron Eagle 308 heads that are going on a 1999-502 MPI marine engine. I would like to know if the push rods have to be replaced.

On my GEN V 454 when I put those Dart Iron Eagle 308 heads on, I needed longer pushrods. I think it was +.200 on the intake and +.250 exhaust. Of course you should always measure for yourself.

Ditto. If you don't need much, maybe lash caps

I PUT DART IRON EAGLE HEADS ON A GEN 4 454 I DID LAST WINTER. THE PUSHRODS DO HAVE TO BE LONGER AND I RAN INTO A PROBLEM WHERE SOME OF THE PUSHRODS WHERE TOO CLOSE OR EVEN HITTING THE HEADS. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THIS BEFORE YOU BOLT THEM DOWN FOR GOOD! DO A MOCK-UP FIRST WITH A FEW HEAD BOLTS AND ADJ. YOUR VALVETRAIN TO CHECK IT. IF THE PUSH RODS ARE TO CLOSE YOU WILL HAVE TO PULL THE HEADS BACK OFF AND HAVE A MACHINE SHOP OPEN UP THE AREA WHERE THE PUSHRODS GO UP THROUGH THE HEADS TO THE ROCKERS.

X2, You can get a set of the adjustable pushrods for like 15.00 bucks or something like that. They are cheap and a good thing to keep in your tool box for future builds and mods. Also if your changing to a roller set up that will also alter the length of your purshrods. If you need help determing the lenght of your pushrods go right Comps site. They explain it very simply there.

How did the iron eagles work on the 454's? What did you have in your buildups and what kind of power did you make.
I have 454 mags and eventually looking for more power.

i never had the motor on the dyno but it was in my 68 steven flat bottom and ran like a raped ape! it was 11.,1 had a rather small solid cam when it came to the lift (slightly over .550 on the lift but the duration @ 50 was pretty decent). the induction was a tunnel ram w/ 2 worked over 660 holleys. i would have to say that it really picked up a lot in the mid to top end (3500-6000) but im basing that on the fact that i had peanut port heads on it before i did the swap to the iron eagles. when i did the head swap.....thats all i changed and was very impressed with how much harder it ran but again going from peanut ports to iron eagles is like compairing a ford focus to a ferrari. i think for the money, they are a great head and would go that route again in a heartbeat. i should have pulled them off my flat before i sold it but it was a huge selling factor and i regret it now. i bought the heads bare and then had them assembled with 2.30 and 1.88 valves and had the bowls and casting flash cleaned up. the dart 308's are set up for a 2.25 intake valve but after doing some research i found that the 2.30 valve allowed the intake side to breath better. here's the link for why to run a 2.30 vs. a 2.25 intake valve. this is great reading!

I built up two 454/330's years ago with the cast Dart oval ports, Performer RPM intake, Holley 800 cfm, 9.5 to 1 comp., roller rockers, 502/465 HP cam and lightening headers. I have the dyno sheets around some where however I made around 485 HP at around 5700. Nothing spectacular however a very nice reliable package. This was back in the early 90's. I would definately do a few things different now.

I have them now on my 462's XM-270h cam AirGap intake and HP500 carbs. Here is the dyno sheets if you click on them it will get bigger to read!
