1 Attachment(s)
just curious if anyone knows a part # or where to get the gaskets for a Merc 575 Blower end caps...(or should I just call the Blower Shop)....I will be changng the oil in the spring by trying to suck the oil out but just in case I have to remove the end caps I would like to have a few spares on hand.........the Blowers are the original front and rear oil bathed blowers........."W" on the cover......

Johnny,
No need to pull the covers. I used to change my front reservoir with the Tempo dipstick oil changer. The rear can be changed with a Windex spray tube bent to fit into the reservoir. And by the way, if you need service on those blowers, I recommend Darren Mayer Performance Engineering www.dmpeinc.com . The Blower Shop makes nice superchargers, but their service is slow and expensive. DMPE does great work at reasonable prices, is closer to you (in Michigan) making freight quicker and cheaper. Regards, Steve |
I used to change mine on my 525Sc with a large syringe with a piece of tubing on the end. Worked pretty well. There is not that much lube in them.

Thanks for the good ideas guys.......I will try the flexible windex hose and a syringe.........thanks again.......
Steve...........I actually had both my Blowers and a spare one rebuilt this season by the Blower Shop......I thought they were priced fair and did a great job.......next time around maby I will try DMP....................Thanks......... |
What oil does Blower shop use when they rebuild?
I have to change the oil on mine thin winter and I forgot what they use???? I believe it is Red Line . . . . . . |
The Blower Shop and DMPE recommend Red Line Shockproof.
It looks like Pepto Bismol, which is weird, but it does stick to the gears well, and seems to stand up fairly well to gas intrusion and dilution. I have also used Royal Purple 75W/90 Max Gear. Some guys use Mercruiser drive oil? It has molybdenum in it, and has to stand up to incredible pressure in drives, so it may be fine. I've never used it. BTW not bashing Blower Shop at all. In fact I just bought a complete billet 871 system from them. It just seems to me their priority is sales of their own proprietary products, and less, service on other brands. I have spent so much time and money rebuilding my Merc/Weiand 256 (3 or 4 times, I was spinning it fast with a 3" pulley) every season, I realized I could just buy a bigger more efficient blower and slow it down, and not service it as often. DMPE seems to welcome service business, and is very customer service oriented. They tell me they service all superchargers except centrifugals. Happy Holidays, Steve |
Is that a Snap On windex spout?

Guess what the owner's manual says about changing the supercharger oil (It does have fairly complete instructions on servicing other fluids/filters)? "See your authorized Mercruiser Hi-Performance dealer"........... Steve |
