496 "iac" mufflers ?

Is it necessary to run with IAC mufflers ? they are small sponge like pieces that sit in the throttle body . they get dirty and I had a starting problem because of this . will I notice any difference without these besides being a little noisy ?

My 496 Mag H.O. surged at idle with out the Iac Muffler.

I have never heard of problems from running without them. I believe Raylar removes them from their engines.

I don't see any advantage in removing them, and I would not want to listen to that hissing all the time. It's not a pleasant noise at all. Yes, they get dirty and if clogged they can affect starting and idling, but it's a about $1.50 and five minutes to replace. Replace it annually when you change the oil and you'll never have another issue.

It a little bit more for the motor to go. The IAC that is. I dont have an exact number but the easy replacement is probably best.

I understand those above mentioned idle adjustment procedrures, with the stock twin blade throttle body. Talking about 500EFI. But how i should adjust the idle with the TPIS Monoblade throttle body? IAC shows 140 to 150 counts on idle, engine at the operating temperature (about 140F) with the Diacom. If i open blade more, the TPS sensor moves too and starts to show 7-12% opening at idle.
Is it the easiest way to file the TPS sensor bolt holes, so i can turn it backwards and compensate it to 0% at idle? IAC should show about 40+- counts at idle?
WOOPS wrong thread!
