Removing Steering Cable From Rack???
Before i attempt it how do you remove the cable from the hydraulic unit attached to the inner transom plate? Thanks
|
Its not easy!!!
Seriously, I dont remember how we finally did it on the old Baja, but I remeber it being a pain in the azz, I remember even trying to cut thru the cable with a sawzall, since we were replacing both the rack/cable, and also the power unit. If you are replacing the old power unit with a newer style you will also have to replace the hoses, the fittings are different, and I couldnt find adapters. |
Thought you were doing an add on steering system? Are you ditching the cable part or doing some rerig clean up?

Yes, The big nut releases cable it is soft metal if you need to cut it. It should release easily. Also there are two big bolts that the whole assy. pivots on, if the are not stuck you can remove the entire steering assy easily too. I often cut the ears off the inner plate that held the steering to clean up visually. Full Hydraulic certainly is nicer. Happy New Years. Looks like great boating there.
