LS1 Pachanga 22
I am looking at a 87 model Pachanga 22. I needs an engine rebuild and I want to upgrade. What would be the pros and cons of putting an LS1 into this boat? I am getting the boat pretty much for free and want to keep it economical until I upgrade to a larger boat.
thank you Andy |
Get a merc 383 stoker reman. Best price for 350 hp and will run nice in this boat. I think there are some for sale in the classifieds. Like 7000 for engine and 12000 for package.

Be sure which drive you have. A lot of the 22 s came with a Alpa package. I wouldn't think you wold want anything more than a 383 in front of an Alpha.
Those are pretty cool boats. good luck |
LS-1 Pachanga sounds interesting.* Not many have marinized the LS-1 but I do know Raylar has a package in the works.* Also Tom Stolarz at WPM had a prototype in the works.*It's an interesting concept but there are too many hurdles in the way at this point to make it a do it yourself project.*As mentioned above, the 383 replacement package works very well and is priced right.* Spend a few bucks and enjoy the boat. I'd guess a 22 P with the 383 would run just under 70 mph all day long.
Love the Pachanga, had a 22 with 350 mag for years and just picked up an '87 with a 454. They are very well built and last a long time. Kurt |
maybe hold off for a few months i hear mercury marine has a 400+h.p. small block in the works. i was told they are going to probably scrap the 496 due to g.m. scrapping the 496 due to low sales. check your stringer in your 22 pachanga they where a big problem cracking. if they are built with a aluminum plate welded to a u-channel then through bolted to a piece of glassed 3/4" vertical plywood you need to upgrade or it will snap off. i have seen it way back in the '80's when they built them . i worked for the largest sea ray dealer at that time here in N.Y.. it was a recall from sea ray.
