I was thinking about switching to synthetic but have heard that changing from petroleum based with an older motor could cause some problems...any input

Engine builder has a 2 year warranty on engines. So I use the recommended straight 40 Racing Valvoline. I do notice some oil consumption as I approach 20-25 hours.
