Small Block Oiling ??

I'm building a new stroker right now and have come across a topic and now have some questions. Should I leave the oil bypass in the block alone or plug it? I've always ran it stock in my past motors but have noticed oil temps rising rather quickly after WOT runs on my last motor.

I'm thinking that maybe oil is bypassing the filter and cooler and that is why it's getting hot. Hot I mean 230-40 degrees after sustained WOT runs.

I'm contemplating plugging the bypass and running a 2qt Wix racing oil filter to avoid bursting the filter. That way all engine oil is filtered and all sees the oil cooler.

Any drawbacks or points I'm not seeing?

I realize no WOT till oil is OP temp and filter changes earlier, but I change the filter and oil every 25 hrs anyway.

Just my .02. As long as you let your oil warm up before you hammer it I do not se any problems with plugging the by-pass. Your oil pressure max pressure is regulated at the pump so really there will only be so much pressure even with oil filter by-pass plugged. Also if possible mount your oil pressure sender in the oil passage after the filter. This will let you know if your filter is plugging.

PS. I have been running plugged oil filter by-pass for years on BBC with no oiling problems. Most of us change oil and filters way to often to ever plug one up. Again just my thoughts.

pipe plug it,I wouldnt think its the cause you oil temp,My Chevelle runs around 180,on the highway it will climb some,Smokey Yunick said on valvoline 20w50racing oil, ideal oil temp for the most HP was 250.

You dont need the 2 Q filter ,go to Napa and get the 1060r or1061r, its the wix racing filter.
