ls2 heads

Does anybody know what type of valves are used in this motor or better still have access to the head specs? Thanks

rdoactive 01-22-2008 08:53 AM

Are you referring to the LS2 heads on the 6.0l all aluminum GM motor used in vettes/GTOs?

fastlane40 01-22-2008 01:42 PM

yes.Know what sort of valves are in them?

Valve Material: Stainless Steel, Hollow Stems, Na filled Exhaust

rmbuilder 01-22-2008 03:59 PM

The LS1/LS6/LS3 heads have the hollow/sodium filled valves. The LS2 heads use an 8mm solid valve on both sides.

Thanks Guys and great to hear from you again Bob.Trust all is well.

The LS6 & LS3 had/have the hollow stem sodiums, the LS1 did not. The LS6 & LS2 heads are extremely simular castings, the only difference being the sodium valving in the LS6 heads, with "yellow" valve springs, which simply denotes seat pressure.

if youre looking for a power upgrade better can take the L92 truck version head used on the ls 2 blocks and complet l92 truck engine they have bigger valves(stainless steel) and better flow!

2.16" Intake Valve
1.59" Exhaust Valve
70cc Combustion Chamber
260cc Intake Runner Volume
90cc Exhaust Port Volume

Flow Data:

Lift, Inches Intake Flow @ 28" Water

With 4.125" Bore
Exhaust Flow @ 28" Water

With 4.125" Bore

.100 79.2 57.8
.200 153 114.4
.300 225 147.2
.400 276 170.3
.500 309.6 183.1
.550 323.2 186
.600 332.2 189.5
.650 327.7 191.1
.700 330 192.6
.750 317 195
.800 317 195.8

lots of corvette or pontiac gto owners buy these heads as a low cost ($450 These heads are sold complete with valves, valve stem seals, keepers & retainers.) powerupgrade

I am building a ls 2 engine whit this heads in to a 21ft phantom

Very true but I believe a L92 head would be too much for a stock cube 346 LS1 with their big 260cc intake runner. The AFR 205 head with its 205cc port can support power well past
7K rpms with the right combo. I would use the L92s on larger bore motors like a 383 or 402 or bigger.

youre right the requere a minium bore of 4.000" because the have big valves and the valve angle,so you can NOT use them on a ls1

Is anyone making headers or exhaust manifolds for these LS engines? How about starters and other marine accessories?

The rumors seems to indicate this is the last year of the 496. And with these:
http://www.gm.com/explore/technology...LY6_Marine.pdf
http://www.gm.com/explore/technology...LS2_Marine.pdf
...it does not seem like the LS is going to have problems making lots of power.

Thanks for those links. I did not know GM was moving that way with the LSX engines. As for power they can make it!
My LS1 has a basic heads and cam package and makes
420rwhp @ 396rwtq which is around 475 hp at the crank out of 346 cubes. A friends 402 LS2 with AFR 225 heads and cam makes 567rwhp @ 521rwtq which is well over 600hp at the crank. He traps 130+ mph at the track to my 117.
