small outboard Q?

i just bought a skiff with a 25hp evinrude it is still in the crate. do you have to winterize these motors when it gets to freezing or are they self draining like i have been told. seems like a pain in the a$$ to winterize each time since i want to use this for duck hunting in the winter thanx in advance. if this is the case i will just hunt off the checkmate and winterize that each time  :D

It does self-drain, just leave in the down position. As long as it runs once and a while you shouldn't have a problem with the carb gumming up either.

Listen anyone who says you dont have to winterize an outboard is wrong! You should service engine including-gearlube-plugs-zincs-etc..It is very
important to "decarbinize"the outboard!if rings have carbin built up the piston rings can seize!Which is #1 cause of powerhead faliure! So think again about running your engine-decarbinize- fog with storing oil and run out of gas!

Yo head ball buster dude. I didn't see anyone mention not properly servicing an outboard. They were talking about winterizing. This typically refers to what needs antifreeze to prevent destruction of internals. Insptech is right on base... you are way off! :D
