How much cam and comp do you have and what kind of rpm are you wanting to turn those are what I consider to be among the best heads on the market you should make great power.www.mesabalancing.com

Laz,

I know enough about engines to be dangerous. Not sure yet on the cam and comp. these engines will be for pleasure boating mostly so I asume I probably want to turn 5500 to 6000rpm.

clone a hp 500, and put on a dart intake with a 750 or 850 dbl pumper . just watch the jeting on the carb

I built a 540 using AFR CNC'ed 315 heads. I tossed around intake ideas for a while but decided to go with what may be considered to be an unusual choice. I knew I wanted go with Dart but was a bit concerned about their rectangular port intake raising the power curves a bit too high. So, I went against the grain and used their oval port intake on my rectangular port heads. I gasket matched that last 2" of the runners to match my heads. It was alot of grinding but I think it paid off. My engine makes good power throughout its range.

Vinny,
Excellent choice. I have been doing that for years now. The oval port intake has a smaller runner volume and works great when port matched correctly. It helps keep air speed up through the port resulting in more torque and broader power band. The Brodix HV Series oval port is also another great choice to perform this same operation on. :cool-smiley-027:

Thank you, coming from a pro like you, that makes me know I made the right choice. It made one hell of a mess grinding all that aluminum.
