True or False: MEFI 3 has TOTAL run time?
I was told by one person they could only get the current time the engine was running, (as in right now) and by another that the total time is on the computer.
Anyone? |
It records the total run time.

Lifetime total is recorded.

You can get both, just did this last week with Rinda ScanMate. First it shows total run time, and then when it goes into "scanner" mode, it will tell you how long it has been running, currently, since scanner was attached, along with a bunch of other "current" information.

Thanks!

Yes, it also breaks it down into rpm intervals. You can also see the amount of time in knock retard. This can all be erased if you have the right software, so you can't always trust the hours.

MEFI 3 does that? I thought it had to be the new, next generation (can't remember the name/number) that breaks down the rpm stuff?

Dustin,
I once borrowed a scan tool from a friend that did show the entire break down of hours vs. rpm. I believe it was made by OTC. I not positive about the name, but I'm pretty sure. It had interchangeable cartridges that would allow it to work with all of the MEFI's and the 555, etc. It was a really nice piece. The only problem was it is a little big. It is probably 5 or 6 times the size of the Rinda. Eddie. |
My Rinda tool shows total hours, but not individual times at any rpms.

The way we read the MEFI 3, it shows a minute meter value for the total time the controller has been on a running engine. Keep in mind the same controller may have been run on a few different engines through out its life, so this is an accumulated total. It also displays current run time in seconds, which is since the engine was last started. This is useful to know if the engine has been running for 30 seconds or 30 minutes when you are viewing logged data.
The MEFI 4 shows an hour meter value which is again an accumulated value, in addition to times at various rpms and knock time. The MEFI4 will also show max rpm for the life of the controller. I always find this value interesting to look at on various engines. When I see a large long stroke big block value past 7000 rpm one day, and then a high winding small block value of 4600 rpm the next, it says a lot about their owners! |
