Stupid , Stupid Question 500 EFI
For some reason I am now wondering if all 500 EFI's merc has done are Gen VI motors...what is it? were any Gen V ?
|
I'm 99.9% sure that all 500EFI's are GenVI

The reason for me asking this is I was reading a tech article in the March powerboat and Tegue refers to a 525 as a gen V motor at one point and it really threw me for a loop. I am with you I am 99.9 % sure all were from the 500 EFI forward Gen VI....Maybe I Read the article wrong. This is on Page 28 and he is refering to head gaskets to use on this motor.

Merc made a 525 sci which had a blower on it. I think they were 454 blocks. Late 90's Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

Just read that as well...I think he is referring to just the head gasket for a GenV. I think you can run a GenV head gasket on a GenVI as well.

This is what happens when you have a sick 2 year old on your hands and the wife is out of town, have'nt slept in 48 hours and have been cooped up in the house for 2 days:party-smiley-004: .....the end result is overthinking things.....

Dave Cometic list a head gasket that will fit gen IV , V , and VI 502. |
Now these are the original EFI big blocks from the 80's .
http://www.offshoreonlyclassifieds.c...o21613-en.html They came in 540CI 850+ or for Open Class 500 CI rated at 800+ and made tons of torque . |
Fel-Pro makes different gaskets for the Mark 4 and the Gen series engines. Gen 5+6 use the same head gaskets.
