Gauge replacement tips
 

I am replacing my current Mercury gauges with Autometer Marine units and was wondering if anyone had access to the wiring diagrams for the original gauges. I'm hoping that might help make things go a little smoother in the switchover. I have a pic of the current ones below The new gauges are Autometer's white series with the 100 mph GPS speedo.

Replace one at a time. The connections for each gauge should be the same with sender, power, light and ground connections.

Also, 99% of boats use a universal color schematic and any merc engine should have the color list.

Anyone ever do an in dash gps on a fountain?

Yes, change one gauge at a time. Use a nut driver. Turn off the batteries. Take your time. Make sure gauge is straight before you tighten it in.

Remember:
Purple wires are only hot when the ignition is on.
The black wires are ground wires.

if you want to do the whole dash at one time then get yourself some zip-ties or a roll of masking tape....before pulling the wires off the gauge, group them together with the zip-tie or masking tape and lable them so you know what gauge they went to. The 3 most common wire on the gauges will be the Black(ground) Purple(ign or switched hot) and Blue(for lights) the rest will be sending units etc.... heres a link to a list of color codes i made up a few years back that should help you.... http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...ht=color+codes

Just take you r time and do one at a time and you will do fine. :D

I can't help it! It's a sickness!! I think the gauges are where it stops for now. I talked to the guys that did K-WELLS cabin doors, and they were supposed to send pics. I never got those. I wanted the gauge upgrade because of the engine upgrade. It will be nice to have actual numbers on the gauges. I also bought a 27P Mirage plus off of Ebay. I can sell my 25P Labbed to offset that cost though.

Thanks for the responses guys. I know it should be a pretty straight forward deal, I'm just looking for any tips and tricks to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible.
