rebuilding gen VI 502

Gonna start rebuilding my motors soon , wondering were's the place to buy pistons, rings, bearings etc. and minus the cam and exaust valves is everything else the same as a car motor. Thanks.

No, not the same as a car motor. You need the highest strength components possble for a performance marine application. At a bare minimum you'll want SRP/Wiseco/Mahle pistons, Fel Pro marine gaskets, etc. Rings & bearings can use automotive parts. Remember marine clearances are NOT the same. You'll cold-seize a piston or hang a valve if you don't get those clearances right.

Try flatlanderracing.com. They have great prices. Mail order/no support though- and they know nothing about marine engines,

On this board, you can find Young's Performance or mrhorsepower1 (Dean Gellner) as well as several others who are in the business and can provide you with good deals and the info you need to keep from turning all those new parts into a worthless mess.

Thanks for the info. I'll make some calls tomorrow.

Thanks Chris.
DMAX, he's right. Although it's not brain surgury, there are many things that can be done wrong to ruin your new parts. Definetely, not the same as a car engine. I would be glad to help you out. Give me a call at 615-216-7449 shop or 504-416-3607 cell. Thanks, Eddie.
