Header Decisions

I need some help on making decisions on headers. It's making my head hurt :angry-smiley-038::angry-smiley-038:

I will be running twin 555 ci / 700 HP / TRS / Salt Water.

My first choice is Lightning, second would CMI, and third would be Cyclone. It is time to pull the trigger and I just want to make sure that I am making the correct decision! Please help me make this decision:hitfan::hitfan:

I would say lightnings except for the salt water issue.

You can get Lightnings in full stainless. I don't see where they would be any different than the cmi's for salt water use.

I honestly haven't seen any leaky lightnings myself but I have seen leaky CMI's. Probably just a matter of numbers though.

great question.

I am in the same boat (pun intended).
Have an older wellcraft 502's need headers.

Hate spending that much money on unknown factor.........

Lightnings do come in SS for about $3300.00 if I recall.

HEY 320s, what part of St. Louis you from?
I am from across the river
Mitchell, Ill (outside of Granite City.)

Either one will eventually have issues if not flushed, like anything used in salt water.

As far as leaking, most of the leaking CMi issues were the actual Mercury Racing headers and most of them also on staggared set ups. Mercury Racing has a different alloy and a thinner material than standard CMI headers. It is more than likely a cost issue.

We can get you into CMI Elbow tops with standard Bravo exhaust tails for
$ 2,995.00.

Your set up would require longer tails. You should have the build sheets and we can firm up a tail price when you get measurements.

Mercury Racing, Ilmor and every World Championship race boat use CMI headers for a reason!

I would go with Keith Eickert Thunder & Lightnings!! Just finished putting some on a motor and they are super sweet..Never a concern about salt as thick as they are. They are very light in weight for as big as they look also!!

I have some slightly used tails for them, And I believe you can use them with minor mods for your TRS setup.

That may be he way to go with the used tails, depending on what they need. We would still get you a great deal on the headers.

Is CMI still making the tube top in a big tube config? Don't they hold up fairly well and still make hp? What do they go for?

will the tails fit a trs outdrive application?
how much? do you still them?
