Low Ratio Rockers for BBC

Does anybody have a set of low ratio BBC rockers ( 1.5 orso )that they would either like to get rid of , or even loan out , or rent , ect... ????

I know Harland Sharp makes a set of 1.5's for a BBC
I am wanting a set for a bit of extra insurance breaking in a flat tappet cam.

Anybody ????

Thanks , Scott

If you're too lazy to pull the inner springs Comp has a 1.5 set for about $350. :D:D

You do know that there is the proper additive for just that situation. AND, see Joe Gibbs Racing Oils for lubricants that are made for just that problem------valve train wear.

I think the Sharp's are around $200 ( not sure on the exact cost )

As far as the too lazy part well.......... got in the house & in bed at 4:00am this morning & I was back here at the shop at 8:00am ( for about the 5th time in the past 2 weeks ) ontop of a full time self employment job , side jobs , a wife & 2 kids , ect...ect... Oh yeah & like alot of us here I also own a boat that I do all my own work on so theres another full time job... So the time & lazyness is not a factor , although I am sure you were just busting my balls...:D

Yeah I am aware of the GM EOS & the Rotella t & a few other oils that still have the good stuff in them for break in. Also removing inner springs ect...

I will check out Joe Gibbs oils.

Thanks , Scott

Around 135-140# on the seat & around 340-360# open...

Those numbers are approx b/c I am at the shop right now & they are wrote down at the house , so I am going off the top of my sleepy head..:D

HaxbySpeed 04-04-2008 01:54 PM

Unless you're running some crazy lift and ramp angles then you've got absolutely nothing to worry about with that much pressure. I've done lots of iron head combos with the Comp 911 which is a single spring with almost identical pressures. Never had a problem.. Good luck, Alex.

I am going throught this right now and could not find a single spring set up for those approx. pressures.? I am just running the outer springs for about 45 mins. and then putting the inner spring back in.....I know alot of work, But I'm with you on proper break in is CRITICAL !!! My .02

Comp 911 single with dampener: 130 - 140 on the seat / 345 - 355 open with 550-575 lift :D

Your 130 is still alot on the seat for a new cam break in. Mine is at 80-90 lbs. on the seat. This is plenty for opening and closing on just break in. I did also price the reduced ratio rockers and tried to find some to use..I might just buy some then I could rent them out for everyone to use.?

HaxbySpeed 04-04-2008 09:21 PM

It's not the seat pressure that'll kill it, it's the open pressure. The 1.5 rockers don't take anything off the seat they just lower the open by not pushing the spring down as far. I usually install the 911's at about 125-130# I break in all my motors on the dyno and have never had a problem. Having said that, about the only time I use those springs is on really tiny cams which limits the open pressures to around 310# I like the idea of the 1.5 rockers but would rather spend the money on a roller cam :)

I agree the low ratio's will not help the seat preassure , only the open b/c of the limited lift.... As for the last statment : If I hadn't already bought the flat tappet & lifters & I didn't already have the heads set up , I would penny up the differance & go roller... But now it would cost me another 1k
plus what I already have in the other stuff (& ontop of that I wouldn't gain a ton of HP with my setup ).... So why is it that practicly everything I do in this sport comes down to the same conclusion $$$$$$$$$$$....... Oh well I still love it !!!
