Sea Pump leaking oil?
Was playing around with my new to me boat today. Noticed what looked like grease "slung" in the bilge. The line of grease/oil seems to line up with the sea pump pulley. Its not motor oil, its too thick and blackish gray in color. I am pretty sure its got to be leaking from the sea pump.
Does merc have a seal and bearing kit for these old style pumps? Its the Gen IV pump. |

Could it be that your belt is slipping, that will leave a black carbon type line also.

Nah, its definitly a oily grease residue. Its actually splashed on the stringer(portside) and underside of hatch. Probably leaking from the pump shaft, then getting slung clockwise from the belt/pulley. |
there is a hole in the housing ...when the seal starts to leak water/grease comes out of the small hole .....m

If you have the mechanical fuel pump bolted to the sea pump make sure it not leaking fuel into the pump housing. It will delute the lube thats in there. I think it uses the same lube as your outdrive uses. I had this happen on one of mine. Had to replace front seal and fuel pump. I took the seal to an auto parts store and they had a match.
