outdrive swap
if i wanted to change my bravo one outdrive to a bravo xp,what is involved to do this,is the input shaft the same sizes,do i need the housing and everything,or what can be done to a bravo one to beef it up????running 600 +hp to this one ,heard of and seen it done dazen times over with no failures, but i am still looking ahead of the situation.

I assume you mean an XR drive. You can replace the entire drive but will need to replace the gimbal bearings first, the bearings are different to account for the larger XR input shaft...everything else will bolt right up except the prop. The prop hub will be different than the regular bravo so you'll need the correct prop hub too.

Stock Bravo should handle 600 HP as long as you don't get stupid.

Thats what I thought to. I striped the gears twice and then the last time it exploded the Bravo on my Fountain with a HP500 & Blower. I boat on a realitive calm lake. I wish I would have saved to time & money and put the XR on first.

Have the Bravo built. In the end, it will be stronger than an XR. Get ahold of Mr Gadgets on here. He has built a number of them for OSO members.

Ak,
If you are running a blower motor and are able to knock the teeth off the helical cut gears (standard bravo), then it is advisable to go to the XR gears. If you want to give me a call we can discuss the options. 616-403-1006. At the moment I am booked up for the next 12 wks or so.. but willing to chat for bit so you know what route to take. Hope this helps. Dick |
