pre lube new engine????
Hey guys, I have a question about pre lubeing a new engine. I started to pre lube my engine with a drill and a pre lube tool and the pressure built quite quickly. After about two minutes there was so much pressure that it was very dificult to get the oil pump to turn. I could only turn it at about 60 RPM with the drill. Is this normal? I am getting good oil flow to the lifters but I don't know about the crank. This is a new GM crate engine but it has been sitting in a shop in plastic wrap for about two years. When I took the oil pan off it was full of a dark red pre lube. On a side note ,I did install a new melling High volume oil pump. Any feedback would be greatly apreciated.

The same happen with my twin 555 setup when I was using an electric drill. Use an air drill if possible. If you are getting oil through the lifters then you should be all good. It's building pressure!

Sounds like you pump works!!
You'll be primarily oiling the mains and filling the valleys. You should be good to go. |
Thanks for the reply guys. This is good news. I am installing the engine this weekend and I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. You know how it is, it's better to ask the dumb questions up front rather than wishing you did later!

No such thing as a dumb question.:party-smiley-004:

Good luck, I will be dropping my twin 555's / 700 HP in this weekend also. I through the pre lube last week.

Make Sure you pump some oil and then turn the crank 90* .... do this 4 times minimum .....m
