From VST to Fuel cooler. Help.
I am changing from my Vst tank to an electric pump and fuel cooler, but i do not know where goes were and what goes before. Can someone please explain what come first and what goes were.
I have an fuel pump, fuel cooler and a regulator all aftermarket parts. Thanks in advance. Harry |

There are a number of different ways to plumb a new system like this. The selection would be based on several things: what type of engine is it?... what year?... is it stock or modified?... can you run return lines to your tank?....are you going to do more mods after the new fuel system? This basic info needs to be known to design a proper fuel system.
I just replumbed my entire MPI system....with a lot of research and a lot of feedback from guys on this board. I'll try to share what I learned if you can provide more info. |
The engine is a 1997 502 mpi with 741 cam, dry exhaust, programmed ecm. Now I bought this kit cause the VST was giving problems with the pump and insteat I bought a new pump, I opt for something better. What I would like to know is what come first then what else and through were. The electric pump is a SX and even the regulator.

Mine was also a '97 with a similar cam...but I switched from the factory cool fuel to a custom system. I came out of the tank with a #8 line to a RAMCO oil/water seperator then #8 to a WELDON A600 pump, then #6 to a WELDON filter then up to the front of the fuel rail, out the back of the fuel rail to a return regulator then to the fuel cooler and then back to the tank. I may not have really needed the cooler since I went back to the tank but I had it and it can't hurt. If your going back to the fuel filter and not the tank, the cooler must be on the return hose to the filter. Modifying my fuel rail from a dead head design to a flow thru design took a little bit of work but was worth it. Don't forget to correct the factory defect on the #7 injector feed in the fuel rail. Do a search. It is discussed in this forum.

mjb, thanks that was the explanation that I was looking for. As for the factory defect on the #7, I did arrange it after I melted the piston cause I didn't know about it before.:( My last question pls, did you use the mechanical pump??? I do have the high volume pump fitted and if I'm not mistaken it pumps 8-9 psi.

I did not use a mechanical pump. If you have a good quality electric pump and mount it low in the bilge(relative to the fuel tanks), you should not need a mechanical pump.
