merc tb modules vs msd boxes
can i use msd boxes on merc dist's instead of tb modules,is there more adjustabilty with msd's or are the factory merc's ok?
|
You have to use the TB module with the Merc distributor and an MSD box. The MSD box does not have timing curve built in. For MSD's the timing curve is in the distributor. A Merc distributor does not have a curve in the distributor. The advance curve comes from the module.
Then again, maybe it could work without the module if you were running locked timing???? I don't know about that. |
Or, remove your merc module from your distributor, lock it out and install (along with your MSD #6 box) this programmable timing computer. YOU are now in control of when and how the timing events occur. Can even use the full advance retard modules to allow for lower octane of fuel use. I really like the start retard feature also.

Better yet, just get a Crane box with several different built in advance curves.

ok, that sounds good, but if i keep the factory merc boxes what numbers should be on them??
|
or change out the dist as well to something thats more user friendly to change the advance curve, mallory unitlite is the slickest when comes to that..and you can run a box or no if you which...Rob

Are you talking about TB IV modules???? |
Just saw your other module thread and posted there.

yep merc tb 4 modules, these engs [588'' n/a 750hp hawks]came with v6-14 modules,so im starting to wonder if i shouldn't try some 20 deg modules ,because there is so little advance [8-10 degs] in the v6 modules, and they need so much timing to start so you can get 30-32 max timing

I Use The Merc V6 Mod And Msd Blue Boxs And They Work Great.
