Raw Water Pump Hose Connections

Anyone know which connection goes to the suction and which goes to discharge? Its a merc raw water pump with an 1-1/4 hose connection top and bottom. Should be normal engine roation. Its on a 1995 Top Gun. I should have taken a picture prior to pulling motors.

Any help is appreciated.

The one next to the engine block is the suction, or the hardest one to get to.

I would look at the outlets on the pumps just to make sure .......should say "in" for LH rotation and "out" for RH rotation ... your motor should be LH rotation ....its stamped on the back of the pump ...

Bottom hose is the suction.

Suck low - blow high. Makes sense to me. Thanks.

Now I'm confused. Are you saying upper is suction?

Thanks for the info. I'll double check. Just need a flash light to read the lettering.

Makes sense how Noise Pollution stated.

With the pump mounted the connections are just about vertical. The top will go to the oil cooler and the bottom back to the drive.
