Gibson Turndown pipes

Is anyone running the gibson or something similar to the exaust turn down pipes, that dump the exaust under the water at idle. how well do they work. I,ve got e-tops that come out of the engine hatch and it is loud. I need to get to 88db at idle. will they work?

I have 1000 HP with Etops and added the CMi down turns. I am at 78 Dba at idle. Unfortunatley sounds like a Bayliner, but keeps the water patrol off my case.

Do you know what dimensions you need? We can get you quote. We have sold many of these.

The typical is 12" down and 12" out. I havent quoted 4.5" in awhile. Will call CMI Monday for a price.

Have a great weekend.

Here you go 4.5" Gibson turn-downs. $500 plus shipping takes all four. PM me if you are interested. I paid $900 and had them on the boat for 15 hours.....decided that louder is better.:D:D

I started a similar thread in General Discussions before I found this one. GLH posted some pictures there.

Do you guys see any top end speed / rpm loss with the turndowns?

There is a great possibility that I would buy the other two if this would help the sell??

My transom will not allow the same size on all four tips :(
If I can find someone to make the other two I am game for this purchase!

Old School, you up for this type of transaction?

Pantera28-650HP, can you price out a pair for me custom lenghts?
You will have to wait until after 8pm tonight for me to take actaul measurements.

I could only HOPE that with the stock Y-pipe, Teague Mufflers AND these turndowns that I would be quiet enough to supress the MN/WI hearing impaired residents! :)

Hugh and Larry,
That's cool by me $250 each + shipping (Probably $20 each). PM me your phone #'s addresses and I'll call you guys this afternoon. I will be in meetings from 10 until 3:30... I would like to talk to each of you personally to be sure that these are what you need before sending them out.:)

I can ship them out tomorrow.

Craig

Thanks Craig! :)

I will check tonight to 'make sure' that these will get low enough for my outside ports.
When I have that info as well I want to call Gibson to make sure they can make me a custom set to go on the inside tips :(
I am really not liking what it will do to my swim step usage, but at least it will help keep Johny Law tapping on someone else's fiberglass!

That's cool. Here is the model #. You can get the specs from Gibson's website.

MnFastBoat 04-23-2008 10:50 AM

Craig, i had the GF do a measurement this morning since I forgot about it :(
Seems like the tips will only be in the water be an inch or two, you think this would be enough?

Escape Velocity 04-24-2008 07:45 PM

How do the turn-downed tips work if there are no internal flappers on the exhaust? If the boat is at rest and rocking in large swells, will it push water back up into the exhaust?

amazing1 04-26-2008 07:19 PM

sorry for the intrusion. I would like to know who sells GGB turn down tips? they don't turn 90 degrees down like the gibson tips do. these would work great on the two outside pipes with the hydraulic steering.
thanks for the help. Steve :evilb::cool-smiley-027:
