EMI Threads
I'm getting ready to install my EMI Thunder exhaust. Trying to fit in all the brass plugs and hose barbs is a real pain in the a@#. The powder coating is all over the beginning of the threads. The smaller ones I'll just buy a pipe thread tap but the larger ones I dont know how to clean. They're probably 3/4" pipe thread and the only place I could find a tap that big was online from $40 to over $100. And I'd have to order it and wait for shipping. How should I clean these threads up so I wont have any leaks or strip any threads?

I had the same problem with my Revolution Marine exhaust. I eventually got it together without purchasing a large tap. Took a Dremel tool (die grinder) and cleaned up the starting thread and was able to work the 3/4" fittings into place.
I am waiting on delivery of new EMI exhaust that I just ordered - gonna be pissed if I have the same problem again. Makes you wonder about the quality of what you are buying. |
Yeah I just purchased them and I was less than impressed. The threads and flanges both had powdercoating on them that I've been cleaning off. You'd think for the price of things theyd be able to clean em up quickly and take care of the their customers. Also not that I'm impressed with that lack of any kind of instructions. I know how to do it but some direction in not messing anything up and maintaining the warranty would be nice. But they got their money now, they dont care.
