How fast with new Torque 1500SC?
 

So you saw the pictures of the new Vortech supercharged Torque V-12 and you thought you might pick up a pair for the old scow. How fast would you go? Here's the answer! The image didn't transfer too well, but this is what you would get if you dumped those useless 900SC engines in your 36 Skater for the 1500SC (188 mph).;)

how much is teh wieght difference between the v8 and the v12?

Don't know, but I think the V-12 is all aluminum, so the weight is probably similar.

Makes you wonder how many ponys are really in the Bud Boat???:) :)

bud boat has 2,650 hp helicopter motor. Supposedly there are precious few modifications allowed to the engine and that is the largest allowed (there is a 4,500 hp motor that weighs 57lbs more but is illegal).

were you talking about the skater/ nauti bud boat that set a kilo record, dave scott?

Don't know which Bud boat you are talking about, I was refering to the current world record Skater of David Scott who posts on here as Kilocat since the thread started about 3000 hp in a 36 Skater. It does not have turbines in it, 2- V8s connected to number six drives without skegs.

I'm glad to hear that Dave Scott's boat has 3000 HP in it, because that tends to validate the speed prediction on the graph above. I generated the hull curve for a 36 Skater with two sets of data, one from a 36 going about 110 with a pair of HP500s and one from a 36 going about 148 with a pair of 900SCs. With 2 x 1500 HP, the program predicts 188 mph, close to the 190 mph that Scott and Tomilinson achieved. Obviously the next question is how much to break 200 mph?

With desktop dyno I bumped up the Torque 1500 to 1750 HP with a little more cylinder head flow, a little more roller cam and a little more boost. The result is 199.99 mph. Let's say 1800 HP per side would do it for sure. That means the Sorcerer, with its 1900 HP engines has the power, but is it a 36 or a 46 Skater, I can't remember? Anyway, Scott's boat with 3600 HP should be able to break 200 mph, but what engines can make that kind of power and survive?

The Sterlings have proven themselves at 1200- 1300 HP, and Scott must have had a little extra sauce on his to get to 1500 HP, but jumping up to 1800 HP sounds like a whole other program. This is where the extra four cylinders of the Torque V-12 could shine; extra displacement without the compromises of small rod/stroke ratio and shrouded valves in monster V-8s with standard bore placement.

What's the latest word on the successful use of the Torque engines? Someone on the board posted that Pat Patel is not going to use them in his new Skater. Why not?

Oh, yeah... no skegs at 200 mph!? What do you do, lock the steering wheel on center to prevent crabbing, let her run where it wants and try to steer it with the throttles? Maybe it's time for an airplane style rudder on the back of that thing!
