The Rinda "Techmate" scan tool is ok, but you can only view one data parameter at a time. In my opinion a DDT (Mercruiser Digital Diagnostic Terminal) would be much better, you can view four data parameters at a time, and it has some data recording capabilites.

The DDT is no longer in production, but one alternative is to buy an OTC 4000 Enhanced (same exact thing as a DDT) for about $125 on ebay, order the proper software cartridge from Merc (about $200), and the connection cable (about $125). You end up with the same amount of money into it than you would if you bought the Techmate, but you end up with a much better scan tool.

If you have a laptop, Rinda's Diacom software ($579) is the way to go.
