Would I gain anything porting intake to match cylinder heads?
 

I have Edelbrock heads. The ports match the oval gasket pretty close. This manifold is an example only. The port on the right looks like every port on my Edelbrock Air Gap manifold.
Would anything be gained to have intake ports changed to matched the cylinder heads?

We do all of our porting in house. You will gain a bunch by port matching the heads and intake together. Porting of the intake is about $200.00-$250.00. And to port match the heads $150.00-$175.00. Should pick up 40-55 HP gain. 1 week turn around right now.

i saw them do it on horesepower tv, they said it was an easy way to gain a bit of power!

Ok, so if the heads are very close to the gasket, would I gain anything by doing the intake alone?

Im not an engine guru..but by doing the intake only, I believe you would essentially creat a decent lip on the intake port which might actually decrease flow/velocity by creating increased turbulance. the whole process is actually pretty simple (if it's the same as I have done on a lot of 2 strokes) turn down a dowel to precisely locate your gasket, spray the surface with dichem and trace then grind, blend and smooth.

FOR 200 to 250 IT WOULD BE MONEY WELL SPENT and have a pro do it right the 1st time. I plan on having DEAN do mine and also change my cam if I have any coin left over this summer. his engines are in some expensive boats you know like OUTERLIMITS. and he has always helped people on line here. I am tired of my engine builder after 12yrs 3 motors if I call him about my cam spec I forgot it and I picked it out. I needed a carb built he was pissed:grinser010:. so my next rebuild or new motor will be from dean from the guys I talk to at pokerruns HE'S THE MAN. So I am having him set up a carb mine was stolen last year, new intake, hope for head and cam. my motor only has 35 to 50 hours on it. but I want to hit 90 when it back on the water and 670hp won't do it 85ish or 86ish. well I 'll stop talking, but give him a call he might have a better intake idea like he did on mine. art

If you run the Eddy "roval" heads, consider a GMPP alum intake from a ZZ502, its CNC port-matched and it a perfect fit for the Eddy heads.

It's worth the $200 or so to not have tiny slivers of cast iron embedded in your hands (or eye). Plus, if you did them 100' behind your house, then stripped naked & hosed yourself down before heading in, you'll still have tiny, sharp little shards of cast iron all over the inside of your house. Ask my wife.

I would really be interested in seeing a gasket on those ports to see how close it is.

Probably worth the money, I just do not want to lose any power if I do not do the heads this year. Like I said I should have started this project 2 months ago. I stored my boat at a friends (paid $400 so its not free) and the access to it did not work out like planned.:(

I am ready to go boating now just waiting to get above 70 for more than one day.
