HELP has anyone tried removing the little ramps on the bottom under the transom of a p22 i have a 383 sb in it and i feel that if i could get the bow up a little higher i could get more top end if i trim out the drive one click the prop bites but anymore than that it blows the prop out of the water top speed GPS is 60 with a 23 cleaver@4800 ihave also tried a 21 cleaver and a 21 mirage

Why would you want to remove the pads. That's what my boat rides on:D
Call Brett at BBLADES and test a Mirage Plus. A 23 is a large prop for a small block. The big block came with at 23 stock. |
When at (high) speed the boat doesn't run on the pads so no need to bother.

Neighbor has the same boat with a 454. He is spining a 21" cleaver at 4900 and is doing 67 mph. Seems if your turning 4800 you should be doing mid sixties.
|
I believe he is talking about the factory trim tabs. The previous owner of my boat took them off and said he gained some speed. I am in the process of putting them back on because I have added more power...hopin I don't have to spring for K-planes!
|
Between the first and second set of straked there is a hook built into the boat. The first P22's didn't have them, it was only when they started adding big blocks that they added them, to aid in planing and to stop porposing.
I have a 560hp motor in my P22, it too needs a lot of trim, they are coming off this year..... I just hope there is enough glass!. |
how much of a hook is there? there should be more than enough glass there to remove them, you will just have to re-gelcoat it when you get it flat, use a staight edge and don't go to far. but as it was mentioned earlier, it may develope a porpose.
|
3/8 if an inch, it is a convex area between the strakes. My motor is lighter than a 350, I will add them back if I have any issues.... but I doubt it.
Then comes the 2" shorty. I should be in the high 80's once done. Gel is no problem, I wil re-spray it once the bottom is blueprinted. It already BEATS on all the 22 donzi's... it is fun having a sleeper. RT |

i have heard from the factory that the ramps on the bottom of the hull are for aiding in planning of the boat and to help w/porposing at higher speeds.i have been tempted to grind them off and make the hull stright.i decided not to as i didnot want to mess a good boat up.i am alittle disapointed w/the speed.the boat is a 454,w/a 250tpsblower.on a good day it will run 74 0n gps.i was hoping for more.i bought a 27fever last year,w/502mpi,stock and it will run a solid 70.i think the fountain is a better, faster hull.two diffrent boat designs.good luck w/your pachanga.

they are built in and as stated before they are not in the water at speed.
|
If it has an alph drive, put an SS alpha on it. I did on mine and gaind several MPH.
|
They are very much in the water at speed!, my boat has an XR in it, runs 83 right now.
I have an SS on my 18 donzi. |
Guys, are we talking different designs here? I just went out and had a quick look on mine, it is a factory big block year 88 boat. The ramps are between the 2nd and 3rd strakes, counting from keel.
I have grinded them off on a small block boat, actually an inofficial tip from the factory to gain some speed. They are (or at least were on MY 87) just gelcoat filler so grinding and polishing will restore finish. Anyhow, I can't see what good they are closing top speed. I'm running a ~470 hp 454 and XR drive @70 mph and the boat is for sure not deeper than the 2nd strake, my sonar which is mounted close to the 3rd verifies that. (The small block boat was some 10 knots/11,5 mph slower so there they may have been in more contact with the surface) |
