What would you do, I am not sure if I should just pull the motors down to the block, replace the heads, carbs and ignition, or replace the motors completely?, There is alot of rust on the top end of one motor, but the oter is clean. I am not sure what to do, I dont know the history or these motors, or thier real hours. I am at a loss right now as what way to go.

tough call.

if it were me i would get them to a machine shop as soon as possible. bring a couple of cases of beer with you. amazing how fast a machine shop will get stuff done for beer!

in the mean time, rebuild the carbs or buy new ones, send the starters & alternators to a rebuild shop, buy new exhaust manifolds if needed, repaint the bilge if it needs it, have the drives gone through.

think of all the gas money you wont be spending until you get everything squared away.

Peace of mind is knowing what you got! I would tear the engines down and do a complete refresh.....otherwise it's a roll of the dice as to what may happen and when.

The next peace of mind is finding a compentent marine engine shop that can correctly machine and build an offshore hi-perf engine the right way.

By the way, I don't know what kind of power you're looking for or how much you're willing to spend, but the last I knew my engine builder (Dave of WESCO Racing Engines 616-662-2250) has a couple of supercharged engines ready to go. Dave is the guy you want building your stuff! Just ask a bunch of the Chicago Powerboat Club guys. Whatever you do I hope it goes well for you.

well there some sort of issue with one....but by the looks of them they are both going to need to come all the way down to figure out what you really have..Rob
